Islington Council has received Heritage Lottery funding to develop a new, purpose-built Islington Museum at Finsbury Library. It is planned that the new museum will open in early 2008.
Islington Museum closed its galleries at the Town Hall on, Friday 15 December 2006. This has enabled museum staff to create the new 'Story of Islington' exhibition and prepare the museum collection for relocation to the new site.
Although the Museum won't have a permanent home during 2007, staff will continue to provide several of its services. For instance, mini exhibitions of items from the museum's collection will take place in the borough's libraries. Museum staff will also still respond to emails, letters and telephone enquiries about the museum.
Museum staff will also run 'Meet the Curator' days on the first Monday of every month, from 5 February, at the Local History Centre in Finsbury Library. From 2-4pm visitors can bring along objects to donate or for an opinion (not valuation), or to discuss a query.
