Impressive columns and decorative plaster combine with stylish contemporary lighting in an interesting mixture of old and new. The main doors of this hall open onto the front drive of the College with its magnificent wrought iron gates and attractive front lawns. The Lower Hall is particularly suitable for receptions for main events taking place upstairs in the Great Hall.
North and South Cloisters
Two cloister areas link the Lower Hall to the main teaching blocks in the old College buildings. The original fifteen cloister archhes have been filled in with an attractive mix of brick and glass to provide self-contained protected and secure areas. Food and drink may be served in the cloisters and they provide very flexible reception and exhibition areas. The North Cloister usually houses the James Caird boat, famous for its Shackleton connections.
