Creative Organisation : Kinetica Museum
Location : Old Spitalfields Market
Space : 7,200 sq. ft future retail unit on 2 floors
Futurecity Arts immediately saw the potential of the project and sold the idea to their client Ballymore. A two storey building in the market was identified - one that will become a shop or restaurant in the future. An 8 month lease has been agreed between Ballymore and Kinetica. Ballymore paid for and undertook the fit out, which included a new lift. The total value of the project (including notional rent, fit out and operational costs) was ?500,000, of which ?100,000 was provided by the Arts Council England.
While Kinetica has been given the chance to prove its concept and provide a truly novel new outlet for this type of art, the benefits for the Landlord are also strong. They include receiving great PR - the launch was featured on several London TV shows and a good number of press reviews were written in national papers.
This project is the largest cultural project that Ballymore have undertaken to date as part of their policy of ongoing funding in this area.
